Nottingham Forest fans all say the same thing about Morgan Gibbs-White as England announce Euro 2024 squad

Gareth Southgate has this afternoon named his provisional England squad for Euro 2024 and there is no place for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White.

The Reds forward was always going to be a long shot considering he’s never been called up for the senior England squad before.

However, with the form of several top players in doubt, Forest fans had felt Gibbs-White stood a chance of getting the nod.

Southgate has been pretty ruthless with his regular players ahead of the tournament this summer.

Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, Ben Chilwell and Kalvin Phillips have all been omitted from Southgate’s plans.

It’s the absence of a maiden call-up for Gibbs-White that has got Forest fans talking, however, and they’ve been reacting on social media.

Forest star Gibbs-White can count himself very unlucky.

He’s registered 10 assists this season and also bagged five goals of his own as he kicked on during 2023/24.

Although he’s not been called up by England before, he does have more goal contributions than James Maddison who has made the squad.

Furthermore, the 24-year-old came through the England under-21 ranks and Southgate does know who Gibbs-White is.

There is an argument that playing in the same position as Phil Foden won’t help the Forest man but it will sting a little bit.

Fans don’t appear happy and they’ve jumped to the defence of Gibbs-White.

One fan claimed: James Maddison – 13 goal contributions for a side who qualified for the Europa League.

“Morgan Gibbs-White – 15 goal contributions for a side battling relegation.

“I wonder who Gareth Southgate has picked for Euro 2024.

“Beyond a joke now…”

Another fan posted: “Such a shame. He really deserved to be in after a great personal season with Forest.”

A third said: “Find it insane that Maddison has gone over Morgan Gibbs-White.”

Another fan was incensed, saying: “Also an actual shock is Morgan Gibbs-White has been left out. He’s been incredible this year.”

Finally, one said: “They will regret that decision.”

Gibbs-White can count himself extremely unlucky not to be in the 33-man provisional squad.

He’s sixth in the Premier League for chances created this season and that is more than Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and James Maddison.

Still, at least the youngster does now get the chance to rest and recuperate ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Forest fans will be desperately hoping that Gibbs-White is still part of their squad when that time comes around…
