X reacts as huge names miss out on England's preliminary Euro 2024 squad

Gareth Southgate's latest England squad is in it's safe to say that, once again, it has divided opinion.

His 33-man preliminary squad for this summer's European Championships includes a handful of bold calls but, perhaps most importantly, omits some serious names.

Most striking is the absence of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

Joining Rashford outside the squad is Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson, whose return from Saudi Arabia to try and save his international future has not gone to plan.

Adam Wharton, Curtis Jones and Eberechi Eze are among the young names looking to take Henderson's place.

Left-back is yet again an area of concern in the squad, but things are perhaps as dire as they have ever been right now.

Luke Shaw is the only natural left-back in the squad, despite the fact he hasn't played since February and recently suffered a setback which Erik ten Hag admitted might prevent him from even making it to Euro 2024.

No Ben Chilwell. No Tyrick Mitchell. Not even Levi Colwill, who has spent most of this season on the left of Chelsea's defence.

That being said, there were plenty of fans who were excited by the prospect of seeing Southgate's squad strut their stuff this summer.

Southgate is determined to get England over the final hurdle and actually deliver some silverware in what could be his final tournament in charge, and it seems there are a few supporters who are backing him to do so.

Unfortunately, there are also plenty who are fearing the worst.
