Batting collapse sees Denver well beaten at Sprowston 2nd

Denver 1st lost to Sprowston 2nd by 103 runsNorfolk Cricket Alliance Division 4

Denver travelled to Sprowston looking to add to the previous week’s win. They won the toss and chose to field, getting off to the perfect start as Max Merritt and Chris Rolfe (3-24) reduced the hosts to 21-4.

However, Sprowston fought back, seeing off the opening bowlers and then taking advantage of some wayward Denver bowling, waiting for the bad balls and putting them away when they came.

Chris Rolfe took 3-24 on Saturday

Chris Gale struck 55 off just 38 balls and was supported by Daven Roff at the other end as they added 96 for the fifth wicket. Gale eventually fell but that didn’t stop the scoring as Roff made an excellent 68 with Shubham Gohil adding 32 at the other end. However both fell close together and Denver fought back, Merritt picking up two more wickets to end with 3-24 and Joseph Porter cleared up the tail as he took 3-60.

Denver got off to a steady start in reply, but more importantly, didn’t lose wickets despite an excellent opening spell from Chris Gale.

Paul Morton (31) and Ram Aswani (26) put on 64 for the opening wicket, but they both fell in quick succession, Denver then losing wickets regularly. Ted Adams bowled a brilliant spell as he ripped through Denver’s middle and lower order, taking 6-17 as Denver lost their last eight wickets for just 31 runs, giving Sprowston victory by 103 runs.
