‘Brilliant player’: Alan Shearer says there’s nobody in the PL as good as £8m Liverpool man

Alan Shearer has named his best current Premier League XI.

Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Shearer has named his best XI in the Premier League at the moment.

The usual suspects all made the cut as the likes of Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah were named in Shearer’s team.

Shearer did make an interesting suggestion at left-back, choosing Liverpool’s Andy Robertson as his full-back, claiming that he’s a brilliant player who nobody else in his position comes close to.

Andy Robertson the best left-back in the league says Alan Shearer

Shearer shared his verdict on the £8m Liverpool star.

“Andy Robertson. I don’t see anyone challenging him. Nobody is getting in above Robertson, he’s a brilliant player, spot on,” Shearer said.

Robertson is underrated

Somehow, after almost a decade of good service at Liverpool, Robertson remains a seriously underrated player.

The Scot has proven time and time again that he’s one of the Reds’ best players, and yet, he doesn’t always get his due credit.

Shearer recognises that Robertson is the best in the league in his position, and he’s not too far wrong.

There’s a lack of quality left-backs in the Premier League at the moment, and Robertson stands out as perhaps the only world-class player in that position in the entire league.

The fact that Liverpool managed to get Robertson from Hull City for just £8m all those years ago was an incredible bargain, and regardless of what happens in the post-Klopp era at Anfield, Robertson will go down as a modern-day Liverpool legend.
