Report: How Ineos feel about Mauricio Pochettino to Manchester United as Chelsea departure confirmed

Manchester United are still weighing up the future of boss Erik ten Hag but one major change has now occurred for a Premier League rival.

Ineos are on board at Old Trafford and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is planning big changes at Old Trafford.

We have already seen Omar Berrada come in as United’s new CEO whilst Jason Wilcox has started work as United’s technical director.

United fans are expecting changes on the pitch too with new signings certainly needed to change the club’s fortunes around.

If Ineos are willing to make those changes behind the scenes, then it stands to reason that they will also look at changes in the dugout.

Erik ten Hag has failed to build on last season’s third-place finish and United have now finished eighth in the Premier League.

That just isn’t good enough and Ineos may be tempted to make a change and get their own man in.

Mauricio Pochettino leaves Chelsea

United’s season isn’t over just yet with the FA Cup final clash against Manchester City coming up this weekend.

Other clubs are making managerial changes though and one stunning move has materialised on Tuesday evening.

Chelsea have confirmed that manager Mauricio Pochettino is leaving the club after less than a year in the job.

Pochettino leaves Stamford Bridge by mutual consent despite an impressive run of form in recent weeks.

Chelsea have won five games in a row to finish sixth in the Premier League table, leapfrogging United in the final stretch.

One defeat in 15 games seemed to get Chelsea back on track but the Argentinian is now moving on.

Chelsea will now enter the market for a new manager, potentially eyeing up similar coaches to the ones on the Ineos radar.

That may leave Ineos a little twitchy about Ten Hag’s future, but no change will come until after the FA Cup final, leaving Chelsea with something of a head start.

How Ineos feel about Pochettino

Pochettino’s exit does present the possibility of him becoming the new United boss.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss was in the running for the job back in 2022, before United appointed Ten Hag.

The London Evening Standard now claim that Ineos ‘hold Pochettino in high esteem’ as they consider who the Manchester United boss will be next season.

It’s added that Pochettino would ‘likely’ feature on the Ineos shortlist if Ten Hag does leave United this summer.

One interesting factor here is that Ineos have actually tried to land Pochettino once before.

Ratcliffe and co attempted to bring Pochettino to Nice in 2022, according to reports in France, but the deal didn’t materialise.

Fast forward less than two years and Ineos may have a chance to land Pochettino after all.

Pochettino becoming available is certainly a fascinating development and one which Ineos may not have expected just a few weeks ago.

The former Champions League finalist is a name to keep close tabs on in the coming weeks with Ten Hag left waiting to find out his future.
