Ricky Stenhouse Jr. says fight with Kyle Busch was broken up ‘too quick’

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. only got one punch in on Kyle Busch during their brawl following this past Sunday’s NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway before security intervened and dragged him to the ground away from the scene.

Busch couldn’t even retaliate before getting pushed away from Stenhouse, and soon had to direct his attention to exchanging fisticuffs with Stenhouse’s dad, Ricky Sr.

Stenhouse told Corey LaJoie on his “Stacking Pennies” podcast Monday that he and Busch’s fight was broken up “too quick,” and should’ve continued until someone went to the ground.

“That was too quick,” Stenhouse said. “… Give the other guy more of an opportunity as well to come back. And then give the other guy another shot, right. Let it go to the ground. I think so. As long as other crew guys stay out of it, just let the drivers handle it.”

Stenhouse, stuck in the infield of North Wilkesboro with nowhere to go, had the time equivalent to 198 laps to decide how he was gonna handle seeing Busch after the race. Busch put him into the wall just two laps into the 200-lap exhibition, ending Stenhouse’s chances at winning the $1 million prize. Stenhouse, who threatened to fight Busch while speaking with media immediately after the wreck, stayed true to his word.

Stenhouse waited for Busch outside his hauler. Once the two-time Cup Series champion arrived with a herd of media around him, it was on. The two exchanged words before Stenhouse threw a right hand at Busch, setting off a massive brawl between the two and their respective pit crews.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr.: I’m not gonna crash Kyle Busch at Charlotte

As the situation was being diffused and Stenhouse dragged away from the scene, he yelled, “I’ll wreck you at Charlotte,” to Busch. Busch responded to the comment, “Bring it. I don’t give a f***. I suck just as bad as you. Let’s go.”

Stenhouse has since gone back on that statement. He told LaJoie that he will not wreck Busch during this Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600.

“I told him I might crash him at Charlotte — I’m not gonna crash him at Charlotte,” Stenhouse said. “Then that just keeps it going, right. So, as far as my end goes, I feel like I’m past it.”
