Miami freshman slugger Daniel Cuvet continued his incredible freshman season on Tuesday, blasting a pair of home runs for the Hurricanes in an 8-5 win over Louisville in the opening game of the ACC Baseball Tournament.
Cuvet hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give Miami a 3-0 lead and provided some insurance in the seventh with another three-run shot.

He spoke with the ACC Network after the game about his first at bat.
“Yea, you know, I mean, I saw the first pitch really well. Being in this stadium, such a beautiful stadium, you can see the ball so well in the box,” Daniel Cuvet said. “I love playing day games and I was able to recognize the pitches he was throwing. He gave me a good pitch even though he was ahead and I was able to hit it well.”
Cuvet now has 23 home runs on the season, which ties the Miami freshman record held by Pat Burrell.
Reaching that mark has been a goal for Daniel Cuvet and he is proud to have achieved it.
“Yea, it’s an honor,” Cuvet said. “It’s obviously a goal I had, to keep working and getting better every day. I’m glad that it’s led me to this point and this success.”
Despite the win on Tuesday, Miami still has plenty of work left to do if it wants to reach the NCAA Tournament.
The Hurricanes need to beat a top-5 Clemson team in pool play of the ACC Baseball Tournament on Thursday to advance to Saturday’s semifinals. Miami would then need to go on and win the ACC Baseball Tournament as the Hurricanes currently have a 26-29 record.
Cuvet discussed the mindset Miami arrived to Charlotte with.
“We’re taking everything one pitch at a time, one inning, one game at a time,” Cuvet said. “We got one out of the way so now we’ve got to keep fighting for the next one.”
So far so good for Miami, which will have its ace Gage Ziehl on the mound on Thursday against Clemson.
Ziehl is 4-3 with a 3.93 ERA on the season. He led Miami to a 3-2 victory over Clemson back in March, tossing a complete game, while allowing one earned run.
“This is the guy we want to pitch against them,” Cuvet said. “He had a very good outing last time against them. So hopefully he can match that and do that again.”
