'I'm impressed': MLS pundit blown away by what he's now seen from 'professional' Inter Miami star

MLS legend Sacha Kljestan has praised one Inter Miami start after what the pundit saw on Saturday night against DC United.

The Herons left it late to beat their Eastern Conference rivals with Inter Miami ensuring they kept their place at the top of the Supporters’ Shield standings, with the Florida franchise now unbeaten in their last nine MLS games.

With Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez expected to leave Inter Miami in the coming weeks to compete in the Copa America, Tata Martino’s side need as many wins as possible if they’re to qualify for the MLS playoffs as soon as possible.

And Kljestan was impressed with what he saw from an Inter Miami player against DC.

Leonardo Campana praised for ‘professional’ cameo for Inter Miami

Speaking on MLS Extratime, the former LA Galaxy maestro was full of praise for Leonardo Campana over how professional the Ecuador international has been in recent weeks.

The arrival of Suarez has seen Campana lose his starting spot in the Inter Miami XI, yet instead of making a fuss, the 23-year-old has gone about his business and taken every chance with both hands, with Saturday’s winner showing just that.

Kljestan said: “It’s real tough as a player to wait for your opportunity, and he’s not even playing in some games, he’s not been getting a lot of minutes and it’s a tough thing to do.

“But I’m impressed with Campana, even by the way he spoke after the game about taking his chances, it was really professional of him, and it speaks volume about what’s happening with Miami.”

Campana will want to show his quality in upcoming MLS games

Campana’s winner against DC could not have come at a more ideal time for the Ecuador international, with the striker showing Inter Miami fans what they’re getting when Messi and Suarez are gone.

And in the next MLS games, the former Wolves attacker will want to again show his quality and to prove to supporters that there is nothing to fear Inter Miami’s star players leaving for the Copa America.

Indeed, Campana is young and hungry and eager to show what he’s capable of when given a chance, and the forward will want to build from his heroics against DC United in the games to comes.
