Exclusive: Why Chelsea’s board were not happy with Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino parted company on Tuesday after the club’s hierarchy decided they needed a change.

Sources close to Chelsea confirmed to TBR Football that Pochettino was leaving his role as manager, after which the West London giants confirmed the decision.

TBR revealed on Tuesday that Chelsea would inform the Argentine of their decision this week and now that has come to pass with the two parties having agreed to part ways.

But with many Chelsea fans happy with Pochettino – especially the end of the season which saw him guide the team into Europe – why did the change happen?

Chelsea top-brass decided Pochettino was not right man for them

TBR can reveal that Chelsea’s top-brass decided that Pochettino was ultimately not the right man to take the club forward.

Having done their own review of the situation, TBR is told that the club co-owners did not like Pochettino’s criticism of how the club was run and they could not move forward with someone questioning them in the long-term.

The club’s sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley have already been doing their due diligence on prospective replacements and TBR is told there is already a shortlist of potential options.

Speaking after confirmation of Pochettino’s exit, Stewart and WInstanley commented in a joint-statement: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season.

“He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”

Pochettino added: “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
