Tell-tale signs you could be victim of 'knotting season' this summer

A dating expert has urged singletons to be aware of engaging in a casual summer relationship; coining the term “knotting season” to describe the time of year.

Summertime is an increasingly popular time to date, with countless events including weddings and birthdays now taking place in the sun. While you might be stepping out on a few first dates over the next few months, relationship expert Nicky Wake has warned against casual summer relationships without the proper preparation.

The casual summer relationship has a new name, knotting season

In a press release earlier this week, Nicky Wake, the founder of the Chapter2 dating app for widows and widowers, outlined a few of the instances to be aware of before entering Knotting Season.

“The concept is to find someone to loosely ‘knot’ with so you can go on holidays, attend festivals, have romantic picnics in the park, and even accompany you to events during wedding season. Nicky Wake has shared the top concepts from the hottest new dating trend of the summer,” Nicky detailed as the explanation for Knotting Season.

Nicky explained that a major advantage of Knotting Season was the ability to go to events with your temporary significant other. With the sun in full effect and enough events, festivals, and parties to keep even the most prolific social butterfly busy, it makes sense that you’d be looking for a partner in crime. People are even planning child-free weddings, meaning more fun and booze for adults.

“Knotting season will give singletons an opportunity to enjoy popular couple activities during the summer. Alongside having fun with your friends and family, you can enjoy fun date days with someone paddleboarding, or attending a summer festival together, all without commitment,” Nicky said.

While the benefits of a casual summer relationship are numerous, Nicky did issue a series of points to be aware of as we enter Knotting Season.

She explained: “If you meet someone in the hopes of a non-committal summer romance, it’s only fair to communicate your intentions with the other person, to avoid any confusion or heartbreak.

“Knotting season involves only casually seeing one person during the summer, so it’s important to lay down the boundaries from the offset. This will help you both to make the best out of the situation and enjoy the summer together without stress.”
