Mauricio Pochettino to Man Utd has a chance after what Ineos did two years ago - Opinion

The latest name to be thrown into the ring to potentially replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United is Mauricio Pochettinho. Here’s why it might happen.

On the week approaching the 2024 FA Cup final, the last thing Erik ten Hag needs is yet more speculation over his position, which looks likely to be decided after Saturday’s game.

For Manchester United, the decision over who will be manager next year won’t be taken lightly and Ineos have been deliberating over it since their arrival was completed.

But the time to make a decision is drawing near, and now another option has opened up after Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea parted ways.

Pochettino could end up being the new front-runner too, considering what Ineos did in 2022.

Ineos targetted Mauricio Pochettino for Nice in 2022

Pochettino has been one of the world’s best managers for years now, although since departing from Spurs, he’s not found a job which suits him.

With Chelsea ruthlessly cutting ties despite the Argentine’s team having a clear upward trajectory, he could be the one man most suited to United right now should Ten Hag be replaced.

Now he’s available, Pochettino could be Ineos’ man, as it’s already clear they’re fans of his work and have attempted to hire him prior.

This occurred at Nice back in 2022 with a Foot Mercato report linking Ineos with appointing Pochettino and now two years on, they could yet get their man, only at Old Trafford which will likely delight Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Why Pochettino is the ideal appointment for Manchester United

Chelsea’s sacking of Pochettino is a ridiculous decision given the project he was building which saw them with the third most points in 2024.

But their loss could be United’s gain, as Pochettino has always seemed destined to manage at the Theatre of Dreams with some even considering him to be a Sir Alex Ferguson regen given their similar philosophies of football.

He’s a manager who’ll use the youth and shares so many similarities with the ‘United Way’, which is so vitally important at this football club.

Premier League-proven, he’s without a doubt the perfect choice for United this summer in the event Ten Hag is removed from his position. But until then we’ll just have to wait and see.
