Link Jarrett makes case for Florida State in NCAA Tournament seeding

Florida State got off to the right start at the ACC Tournament, taking down Georgia Tech. Virginia is next up for the final game of Pool D, hoping to advance to the semifinals on Saturday. Head coach Link Jarrett has seen his team enjoy a good season and beginning a postseason run with a conference championship would be a positive.

But as usual, the bigger picture of the NCAA Tournament is on everyone’s mind, including Jarrett. He spent some time during the Georgia Tech postgame press conference going to bat for his team, explaining why they deserve to be seeded highly.

“We’ve had some adversity with some of the starting pitchers being down,” Jarrett said. “It’s hard to go through six weeks with two of your three guys that started on the mound for you out. We’ve had guys answer and we’ve extended that bullpen. These guys have done so much to put themselves in position.”

Jarrett spoke about the difficult schedule Florida State has played this season, beginning with the midweek games. Local rivalry games have been a theme against in-state programs. Not just the likes of Florida but the Seminoles also faced Stetson and Jacksonville on multiple occasions — not your typical midweek games.

Florida State then heads into ACC play, a conference Jarrett says has never been better. Not just typical coach speak, attempting to hype up the competition around them. Jarrett has data to back his point up.

“It’s top to bottom as good as it’s ever been,” Jarrett said. “All of the people in the ACC can give you that data. It’s really impressive. And the win-loss percentage in the RPI and some of the things that go into telling you how good this league is — it tells you that.”

On3’s Jonathan Wagner currently projects Florida State as the No. 10 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, hosting a regional. But if they were to stay outside of the top eight, a potential Super Regional would have to be played away from home. Having success at the ACC Tournament could slide them up two spots.

Jarrett believes in his guys and what they have accomplished to this point of the season. He believes all the hard work has shown they belong to be highly seeded come Selection Monday.

“These guys have done a heck of a job presenting their case,” Jarrett said. “With their performance and with their work.”
