The latest on Celtic defender Stephen Welsh’s links to Neil Lennon’s Rapid Bucharest

With just over four days to go to the Scottish Cup final, all of Celtic’s attention will be focused on beating Rangers on Saturday.

Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to continue his unbeaten run in the competition and secure his ninth winners medal as the Celtic boss.

A win against Rangers will also make Rodgers and Celtic unbeaten against the Ibrox club this season and it would be a massive psychological blow to Philippe Clement if that happens.

However, transfer talk has also been hogging the headlines this week and yesterday we discussed how a journalist claimed that Neil Lennon was looking to take Celtic defender, Stephen Welsh, to Rapid Bucharest.

Welsh rumours rubbished

Welsh was taken off in the Trophy Day win over St Mirren with a shoulder problem. A report from the Daily Record has claimed that the Hoops defender has already started light training and could be in contention for a place on the bench for Saturday’s big game.

Within that report was an update on the Welsh rumours and it seems that this is a move that will not be happening.

The report states, “He [Welsh] has been linked with a move to join former boss Neil Lennon at Rapid Bucharest but that has been dismissed by Celtic sources.”

Injury issues have meant that Welsh’s career under Rodgers has stuttered but he has still made 14 appearances this season.

With Rodgers preferring Liam Scales to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers this season, it has been a tough season for the 24-year-old defender to break into the Celtic side.

So it seems that Welsh’s immediate future still lies at Celtic. However, after Anthony Joseph claimed that a ‘decision will be made‘ on his future this summer, it looks like anything can happen for the former Scotland u21 defender.
