Nottingham Forest insert an intriguing clause in new deal for 'impressive' player - Romano

Nottingham Forest tied down Willy Boly to a new contract yesterday to end any speculation over his future.

The Ivory Coast defender has been colossal towards the back end of the campaign and richly deserves the new deal.

Boly signed for Forest in the summer of 2022 after leaving Wolves – and Nuno Espirito Santo signed him for the Molineux outfit.

At 33-years-old it may have come as a surprise to some that Forest have chosen to keep him – although his performances have definitely warranted reward.

Now, some further information has come to light on his new deal and it’s something that does feel a bit surprising.

Fabrizio Romano delivers details on Willy Boly signing Forest contract

This is definitely a piece of information worth noting as far as Forest fans are concerned.

On a day when many fans agreed that Ola Aina should have been given a longer contract at Forest, it would appear Boly has options.

Fabrizio Romano has posted on X that Boly has signed a one-year deal but the club has an option to extend it to June 2026.

Boly is now 33 and it’s intriguing that he has an option for a second in his contract but Aina doesn’t.

Still, this is a positive piece of news and it means Forest end any speculation over two cogs in their defensive unit possibly being out of contract this summer.

Boly is a real City Ground leader

The challenge for Boly at Forest has always been staying fit and hopefully, that can happen next season.

Garth Crooks is a huge fan of the uncompromising defender and called him ‘impressive’ after his performance against Sheffield United three weeks ago.

Who Scored shows exactly why Forest have done well to keep Boly at the club.

No central defender won more headers during 2023/24, with the Ivorian winning 57 from just 20 appearances.

He also made 20 interceptions and helped himself to 86 clearances, despite playing considerably less than some of the team’s other central defenders.

With Felipe retiring, Forest have lost a leader but in keeping Boly around there is still some influence left in the dressing room for next season – and beyond.
