Passengers from turbulence-hit plane reach Singapore on relief flight

Most of the passengers onboard a Singapore Airlines flight that was hit by severe turbulence resulting in a passenger's death arrived in Singapore on Wednesday from Bangkok, where the plane had made an emergency landing the previous day.

A relief plane operated by the airline flew 131 passengers and 12 crew members to Singapore's Changi Airport in the morning, the airline said in a statement. Dozens of people had also been injured when turbulence hit flight SQ321 en route to the city-state from London.

Another 79 passengers and six crew members remained in Bangkok for medical care or to look after travel companions who were injured, the airline said.

The Boeing 777-300ER had a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members when the incident occurred, it said.

Officials at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport earlier identified the fatality as a 73-year-old British man who suffered a heart attack. Seven other people sustained severe injuries.

Among the passengers onboard the SQ321 flight, 56 people were from Australia and 47 from Britain, the airline said, followed by 41 from Singapore and 16 from Malaysia, the airline said.
