Report: £98k-a-week player has decided which club he wants to join after links with Leeds

Leeds United are being linked with an ambitious move to sign a Borussia Dortmund star on a free transfer this summer if promoted, but a report states where he wants to move next.

The focus at Elland Road right now will be Sunday afternoon and Wembley, as The Whites do battle with Southampton for a place in the Premier League but the board will be preparing for all eventualities.

Should Leeds fail to beat Russell Martin’s side, then Leeds are likely to have to sell players in order for The 49ers to comply with Financial Fairplay and balance the books, that means one or two key stars may go.

But if Leeds go up, then Leeds will be under no pressure to sell and can bring in a higher calibre of player. Dortmund and Germany defender Marius Wolf is the latest to be linked if Leeds do go and get promoted.

Wolf is the latest of a few high-profile players to be linked with Leeds if promoted, such as Newcastle star Sean Longstaff or Bayer Leverkusen striker Adam Hlozek. Wolf is out of contract at the end of the season.

Reports state that Leeds have made an enquiry to sign the 28-year-old right-back, but Ruhr Nachrichten now say where Wolf wants to play his football next season – and it is not the Premier League.

Where Marius Wolf wants to play next amid links with Leeds

Leeds need a right-back in the summer with Connor Roberts confirmed as returning to Burnley when his loan at Elland Road comes to an end after the play-off final, ending any hopes of a permanent transfer.

Jamie Shackleton and Sam Byram are out of contract and if Leeds go up, it is unlikely they get a new deal to stay put. Wolf is leaving Dortmund because he is not proving why he is on a huge £98,000 a week.

The latest report from RN states that Wolf wants to move to Saudi Arabia despite interest from Leeds, Spain and Italy. Sources told RN that he wants to take advantage of the big money in the Middle East.

Wolf would be a super signing for Leeds amid Cafu comparisons

It is an ambitious move given Wolf is likely to be involved in June 1’s Champions League final between Dortmund and Real Madrid. Leeds could literally sign a current Champions League winner in the summer.

Wolf has played 31 times for Dortmund this season, including 14 starts. He has featured in six of their 12 Champions League games this season, starting twice and coming on as a sub in four other matches.

Compared to Cafu due to his explosive style of play and his lung-busting stamina, Wolf would be a top signing for the Yorkshire club but given his stance, a deal is unlikely for Leeds and the Dortmund ace.
