'I'm very surprised': Ian Wright shocked by what Roy Keane has said about Pep Guardiola

Pundit Ian Wright was left ‘very surprised’ by some comments Roy Keane made this week about Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard has just won his sixth Premier League title, and made history by becoming the first coach to win four in a row.

Manchester City beat West Ham United 3-1 last weekend to become champions of England once again, and he will hope to finish with a Double, with the FA Cup final with Manchester United taking place on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola has enjoyed incredible success at City since arriving in the summer of 2016.

He has now won 15 major trophies as City boss, with two more Community Shields.

For many people, he is now the greatest manager of all-time. And even Roy Keane believes this, as he admitted on the latest episode of Stick To Football – leaving Ian Wright stunned…

Ian Wright shocked as Roy Keane picks Man City boss Pep Guardiola as greatest manager over Sir Alex Ferguson

Plenty of people now feel that Pep Guardiola is the greatest manager in the history of the sport, following City’s fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The 53-year-old has done a magnificent job, and has had a huge influence on the English game tactically.

During his eight years at the club he has constantly reinvented and experimented, all while overseeing a beautiful, winning brand of football.

For many, the question has always been whether he or Sir Alex Ferguson is the greatest manager of all-time.

One might have thought Roy Keane would plump for his former manager, but he reckons it’s Pep.

“I’ll go with Pep,” he said.

Ian Wright replied: “I’m very surprised at that. I’m just thinking of the times with you and Fergie at Man United, when it was going so great, when you lot were so dominant – there must have been times.”

Keane replied: “It was amazing, yeah. Absolutely amazing.”

Pep is the greatest

It is telling that Roy Keane has chosen Pep Guardiola ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson. Given he was obviously managed by the Scot and had so much success.

Ultimately, it is very difficult at this point to place anyone above Guardiola for what he has done in English football.

The football from City has been breathtaking since he came in, and it has been fascinating to watch him tactically. It speaks volumes that other coaches constantly try to adopt the same tactics, such as playing out from the back and having full-backs invert.

And that isn’t just other coaches in the Premer League. It’s coaches all the way down the football pyramid.

The man is just relentless in his pursuit of perfection, and City fans will hope that he extends his contract beyond next summer. Because it’s difficult to imagine Manchester City Football Club without him. Concerningly, it was suggested on Tuesday that he might well move on after his current contract expires in 2025.
