Euro cup winners target 143 Gers appearance veteran on Bosman

When Steven Gerrard first arrived at Rangers he had to carry out a root to branch rebuild of a team that had just finished third in the Scottish Premiership.

The first new signings were experienced professionals who knew the club and knew the standards needed to be a success.

One of the players who was dropped from the starting XI quickly moved on from Rangers, but he is now being considered by a Premier League outfit, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon.

Wes Foderingham has Premier League transfer decision

When Allan McGregor returned to Rangers, the only game time that Wes Foderingham was going to see was going to be if the number one got injured.

Not only did he lose his shirt number, but he also lost his regular place in the team.

Foderingham was a different type of keeper in that he was good with his feet and happy to build play from the back, however, he just didn’t have the ability to win games with his shot stopping that the Gers hall of fame legend had.

After leaving Rangers with 143 appearances, Foderingham never displayed any sour grapes and praised the standards needed at the club in helping to develop him:

“It’s a massive club to play for. They have some top players – you can see that now beating the likes of Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League.

“But the fans there – who are amazing, by the way – are just very unforgiving, so you need to be at the top of your game.

“You have to be a certain type of character to play for that club and, if you’re not, you learn very quickly what it takes to play at a big club.

“Moving on from there, it’s definitely put me in a better place. I’ve grown up a lot since my days in Scotland and it’s given me a platform to play at the highest level.”

First team football or Premier League prestige?

After claiming his place between the sticks for Sheffield United, Wes Foderingham has played regularly in the last two seasons between the Championship and Premier League.

With his contract ending, the 33-year old confirmed his exit from the Blades and he could be getting the chance to stay in England’s top flight according to Nixon.

West Ham United are the club said to be interesting in picking up Foderingham with the former Gers stopper expected to be filling a backup role.

The question is, after being the main man for the last couple of seasons, would he want to sit on the bench again?

Given his age, he could realistically have another five years of playing, the alternative is to join a club higher up the leagues and earn more money.

If he chose the latter, nobody would blame him.

He’s come a long way since League 1.
