Lee Sharpe responds when asked if The 49ers should sack Daniel Farke if Leeds lose on Sunday

Leeds United go up against Southampton at Wembley on Sunday afternoon for a place in the Premier League and Lee Sharpe has responded to a question regarding Daniel Farke’s future.

Leeds go into Sunday’s game with the momentum back and two clean sheets in a row after dismantling Norwich at Elland Road last week. A huge win that re-established a connection between fans and players.

Four players got their names on the score sheet. Ilia Gruev has come under some criticism in the last few weeks but scoring his first goal for Leeds will reinstate some much-needed confidence in the Bulgarian.

The same goes for Joel Piroe, Crysencio Summerville and certainly Georginio Rutter. The latter had failed to register a goal or an assist in his previous nine matches, while Summerville has gone off the boil a tad.

Piroe was left out of the starting line-up in the first leg and will have felt he had a point to prove in the second leg, and he certainly proved that point. Fans feel he produced his best display in a Leeds shirt.

But success this season will be determined on Sunday’s result. There are some murmurs that Farke’s future should be question if he cannot get Leeds into the Premier League, but Sharpe played that down.

Sharpe says 49ers have to keep Farke even if Leeds lose

Farke has come in for criticism on the odd occasion this season but it is inconceivable to think that the German should lose his job given the success Leeds have had this season, after the mess he inherited.

Players wanting to go, players able to exit without permission due to Victor Orta’s relegation loan clause. Former Leeds man Sharpe was asked by Football League World if Farke could be sacked, if Leeds lose.

“Absolutely, yes (Leeds should stand by Farke even if they lose). You can’t keep changing managers. Leeds only just missed out on automatic promotion, and you need consistency to drive long-term success.

“Farke has proven he can succeed at this level, must be given another shot if Leeds don’t make it. Some players may have to leave, but I would be very confident, if Leeds don’t make it, they go up next year.”

Danny Mills has also comments on Farke’s future, if Leeds lose

Farke has worked wonders this season, and to achieve 90 points after such a tumultuous summer and start to the campaign, is incredible. Normally, 90 points would get a team promoted automatically.

But this is the situation Leeds are now in and they will need to beat Southampton on Sunday to get themselves back into the big time. Former Leeds defender Mills has also discussed Farke’s future.

“You’ve got to stick with him, give him another year. Who else are you going to bring in? And then there would be another turnover in players. It’s his first year, I’d stick with him,” Mills told TalkSPORT recently.
