'Led to believe': Sheffield Wednesday are set to tie down 'excellent' gem to new contract - journalist

Sheffield Wednesday are set to tie down one young gem to a new contract.

Sheffield Wednesday have had a busy few weeks since they confirmed their survival in the Championship.

The Owls are set to release six players upon the expiry of their contracts, while the likes of Barry Bannan, Di’Shon Bernard and Josh Windass are in talks over extending their stay.

With seven players also set to return to their parent clubs at the end of their loan spells, Wednesday’s squad is looking rather depleted.

While they will definitely be looking to do some important transfer business this summer, they could also look to give some academy players a chance.

The club have already confirmed that 18-year-old Pierce Charles has signed a new deal, shortly after Danny Rohl made it clear how much he wanted the goalkeeper to stay.

Jack Hall is ready to commit to Sheffield Wednesday

With James Beadle having returned to Brighton, Wednesday are in need of some squad depth in between the sticks and could look to the youngsters once again.

According to journalist Joe Crann, it now appears that Jack Hall will be joining Charles in putting pen to paper this summer.

Crann wrote on X: “Led to believe that #SWFC’s England youth international, Jack Hall, has agreed terms on a new contract that will keep him at Hillsborough beyond the end of this season.”

The 19-year-old has made his way up through the academy ranks and has been involved in first-team training since he was just 17.

The England youth international is still awaiting his senior debut for the Owls, but was named in the bench for FA Cup matches against Coventry City earlier this year.

What is next for the Owls’ goalkeepers?

Jack Hall and Pierce Charles could well be the only goalkeepers left at Hillsborough going into the transfer window, with Cameron Dawson’s future remaining uncertain.

The 28-year-old has been offered fresh terms, but it seems unlikely that he will be Wednesday’s first choice next season.

The Owls do have two very promising young goalkeepers in their ranks, but the pair would surely benefit from loan exits this summer.

Wednesday should be looking to sign one first-team regular, which could well be James Beadle once again.

If Dawson stays then he can continue as back-up, but Hall and Charles are only going to see their development dented if they are forced to sit on the bench all season.
