N.J. weather: Severe thunderstorms possible Thursday. Latest forecast for Memorial Day weekend.

While thunderstorms can't be ruled out on Wednesday, there's a greater chance of them on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong thunderstorms that include gusty winds are possible on Thursday after another day of warm, humid conditions on Wednesday in New Jersey, forecasters say.

Heavy rain could develop Thursday afternoon and persist into the evening with potentially multiple rounds of storms, the National Weather Service said.

Storms could fire up after 2 p.m. in the Atlantic City, Trenton and Camden areas and after 5 p.m. in the Newark area.

AccuWeather.com also says some flooding could take place in areas with poor drainage on Thursday.

Showers and thunderstorms are also possible in the overnight hours into Friday due to the slow-moving cold front.

Potentially severe storms could lash the East Coast on Thursday, AccuWeather.com says.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for warm, sunny conditions with highs in the mid to upper 80s, though scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible late in the day in northwestern New Jersey. There’s also a slight chance of a thunderstorms overnight as temps dip into the low to mid 60s.

The Memorial Day weekend forecast includes more rain, but it won’t be a washout. Sunday looks like the best day of the three-day weekend with sunny skies and highs in the 80s.

There are chances of rain Saturday as well as Sunday night and Monday. Daytime highs will be mostly in the low 80s on Saturday and Sunday with slightly cooler conditions on Memorial Day.

This includes a trace, which is light drizzle that doesn’t even add up to 1/100th of an inch. However, the weekend wet streak will likely continue this upcoming weekend, with some rain on tap.

In the Newark area, it’s been 12 consecutive weekends with a trace or more of rain on either Saturday, Sunday or both days, according to weather service stats. The Trenton area has had nine straight weekends with some rain falling, and the Atlantic City area has had six straight weekends with some rain.
