Man Utd & Bayern Munich 'alerted' to Mauricio Pochettino's availability after Chelsea exit

By Tom Gott

Bayern Munich and Manchester United are both reported to be interested in hiring Mauricio Pochettino following his surprise departure from Chelsea.

Pochettino parted ways with the Blues on Tuesday after his post-season review left both parties agreeing that a change was needed, with Chelsea now on the hunt for their fourth permanent manager of the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital era.

Reports suggest Pochettino is ready to get straight back into work and, according to the Evening Standard, he may soon receive offers from both Bayern and United.

Bayern are on the hunt for a new manager and have publicly failed with moves for three targets - Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick - while they are also believed to have seen an offer for Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner knocked back.

Talks with current boss Thomas Tuchel over remaining beyond this summer ultimately collapsed, and so Bayern have been left scrambling for targets, with the German giants quickly adding Pochettino to their shortlist.

The situation is not as clear over at United, who are yet to make a final decision on the future of current manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman will get the chance to make one last statement in Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester City, before discovering whether new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has decided to make a change in the dugout.

Pochettino, who has long had admirers upstairs at Old Trafford, has now emerged as an intriguing candidate for United, where Ratcliffe and INEOS are also reported to have taken a liking to the Argentine.

His availability and knowledge of the English game both work in Pochettino's favour, although whether he would be interested in a move to United is not yet known.
