'If you ask me': Jack Wilshere says £54m Man City player is one of his favourite midfielders of all time

Jack Wilshere has stated that a midfielder at Manchester City is one of his favourites in the history of the game.

The retired technician had the pleasure of playing against some of the best midfielders of all time during his time at Arsenal.

In the Premier League, Jack Wilshere went toe-to-toe with the likes of Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes.

Wilshere says City player is one of his favourite midfielders ever

In the Champions League, the Englishman faced the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Sergio Busquets and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

However, Jack Wilshere has revealed that Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne is one of his favourite midfielders in football history.

On Sky Sports, Wilshere was asked who the greatest midfielder of all time was, and he replied: “Stevie G [Steven Gerrard]. Most complete. If you ask me, who is my favourite midfielder, it might’ve been a different answer, maybe an [Andres] Iniesta-type, [Kevin] De Bruyne-type.”

Wilshere, who played alongside Gerrard for England and against him when he was at Liverpool was perhaps inspired by him.

Much like himself, the English legend was a central midfielder, capable of both running the show and being a key defensive presence.

De Bruyne is being mentioned among the all-time greats now

However, Jack Wilshere mentioned Kevin De Bruyne alongside Andres Iniesta as his favourite-ever midfielder.

For De Bruyne to even be mentioned alongside Iniesta in any discussion goes to show how much he has achieved in his career.

It seems like the £54 million man is no longer just viewed as an elite midfielder.

The 32-year-old seems to be considered one of the best midfielders the game has ever seen by former players like Jack Wilshere.

In March, Roy Keane also hailed the Belgian, claiming that he is one of the best players to have ever graced the Premier League.

Alongside the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Luka Modric, Kevin De Bruyne is also seemingly viewed by Jack Wilshere and others as a once-in-a-generation midfielder.
