‘Up there with the best’: Ashley Young says £50m Man City player is one of the best in Premier League history

Ashley Young has said that one Manchester City player should be seen as one of the best in Premier League history.

Pep Guardiola’s side recently became the first team to win four Premier League titles in a row and their sixth in seven years.

With just the FA Cup final left to play before the season can officially end, one top-flight player has been sharing his thoughts on one of City’s most important players and where he ranks among some of the best the Premier League has ever seen in his position.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Young had this to say when asked about Kyle Walker and if he considers the City star as being the best right-back in Premier League history.

He said: “I think that you could now start saying with what he has achieved that he is probably up there with the best. Obviously, I would put Gary Neville in there, but he’s a different type of player.”

Walker vs Neville

At the age of 33, Walker has made 395 Premier League appearances throughout his career, scoring eight goals, delivering 36 assists and winning six titles.

In comparison, Neville scored five goals and provided 35 assists in 398 top-flight games but won 12 league titles throughout his playing career at Manchester United.

In terms of his attributes, Guardiola said back in 2023 that the City star has “unique” physical capabilities that make him incomparable to anyone else around.

Even though Neville has won more league titles than Walker, whom City paid £50m to sign from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2017, the longevity the 33-year-old has shown to be captaining his side to a historic fourth Premier League trophy in a row shows why Young considers him to be one of the best full-backs in history.
