'Always the dream': 'Brilliant' coach confirms he'd absolutely love to work at Chelsea

Chelsea are on the lookout for a new manager, and any new gaffer that comes in will likely bring in a fresh backroom team.

Indeed, we’re likely to see a whole host of fresh faces in the Chelsea dugout next season, and one man who would like to have a shot at coaching at Stamford Bridge is Ashley Cole.

Speaking to Virgin Media Sport, Cole was asked whether or not we will ever see him back in the Chelsea dugout.

Cole spent a bit of time coaching at Chelsea under Frank Lampard last season, and while that didn’t go to plan, he says that he still dreams of working at Chelsea again.

Ashley Cole wants Chelsea return

Cole spoke about Mauricio Pochettino’s recent departure, before discussing a potential return to Stamford Bridge.

“It was always going to be hard with the expectations of what the board expected, it was a tough start for him, but to finish where they finished was a great achievement in itself. Disappointed that he’s left, but they have their own ideas on where they see the team going and which manager they want to bring in for that. Hopefully the direction is to win,’” Cole said.

“Will we see Ashley Cole back in the Chelsea dugout one day?” Cole was asked.

“That’s always the dream, I don’t know about not, but yeah of course you always want to go back to clubs that I have played at. I had an opportunity to go back under Frank and it didn’t work out the way we wanted, but a new slate, who knows?” Cole said.

Cole would be a good option

Chelsea could do a lot worse than bringing Cole back as a coach.

Described as a ‘brilliant’ coach in the past, Cole certainly knows his onions, while his achievements at Chelsea as a player mean that he’d immediately command respect within the squad.

Chelsea look set to go for a younger, more unproven manager, and having an ally like Cole in the backroom who has so much history at Chelsea could be useful.

Don’t be shocked if we see Cole back at Chelsea as a coach at some point.
