What Kieran McKenna said about Man Utd & Chelsea links

Kieran McKenna has responded to rumoured interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, following his Ipswich Town side earning promotion to the Premier League.

McKenna is yet to lead his side in their first top flight match since escaping the Championship, but that hasn't stopped the apparent interest in his abilities from pouring in.

Joining Ipswich in League One in 2021, he has become a highly-valued coach, guiding his team through back-to-back promotions. They are set to make a long-awaited return to the Premier League after 22 years away when the 2024/25 season begins in August.

McKenna's success has gained him plenty of attention and speculation about a move to a bigger club has been rife. Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in the Northern Irish coach as they look to fill the sudden gap left by Mauricio Pochettino.

He has also been linked with Manchester United, where he was previously Under-18 manager and later an assistant first-team coach under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, given the uncertainty that continues to surround Erik ten Hag.

But, for now, the 38-year-old has stated his desire to build on his success achieved at Ipswich.

"Look, the club has had such a positive season and has such a positive future ahead. We've achieved so much, it's been an incredible two years," he told Sky Sports.

"When you have success like that there always comes speculation and things like that, we've seen that every summer. But I know how much everyone is looking forward to the season, the club is on a fantastic path and everyone is just really looking forward to the season ahead."

McKenna's admission came after accepting the LMA Manager of the Year award, pipping the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta to claim the prestigious trophy.
