'Every time': Sky Sports pundit says 'intelligent' Liverpool player is great for his country on every appearance

Liverpool endured a very disappointing end to the season in all competitions, primarily due to their lack of fight in the title race.

The Reds also exited the Europa League much earlier than planned, although Jurgen Klopp was handed a fitting farewell with a 2-0 league win against Wolves at Anfield.

Now, many players from the Merseyside club will be lying low after a busy season, enjoying their holidays before returning for pre-season.

But there is a large contingent who will be busy on the pitch this summer, representing their respective countries at Euro 2024.

One of which is Scotland captain Andy Robertson, who will be looking to guide his nation as far as possible in Germany.

The left-back enjoyed another strong season for his club, scoring in back-to-back games against West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur, although his time on the pitch was heavily disrupted by a shoulder injury.

His focus now turns to the national team, with former Scotland striker Kris Boyd expecting big things from the defender this summer.

“Robertson had a stop-start season at Liverpool,” said Boyd, as per Sky Sports. “But every time he puts on a Scotland jersey, he’s been excellent.

“The understanding that him and Kieran Tierney have on that left hand side will be key if Scotland are going to get anything from the Euros.

“It’s the way they dovetail each other. If Robertson gets forward, Tierney protects him – and vice versa. They are two intelligent players.

“I hope Steve Clarke doesn’t move Tierney to the right, but he might have to. The combination those two have got when they have both played on the left will be key if Scotland are to progress.”

Clarke has now chosen a provisional 28-player squad for Euro 2024, which will be cut to 26 players before the tournament gets underway.

There is not a lot of Premier League representation in the group, but importantly for Liverpool, Robertson is not the only Anfield man present.

He has been joined by teenager Ben Doak, despite the winger missing the majority of the season with a knee injury.

The attacker needed surgery for the lateral meniscus injury suffered in December, but has now been handed positive news with his first senior Scotland call-up.
