Clement urged to give £3m striker with 12 goals Gers chance

When Michael Beale brought two strikers to Rangers who had struggled to score goals in recent seasons, the writing was already on the wall.

Pre-season was a slog and things got worse on day one when an away trip to Kilmarnock ended in disaster.

Since Philippe Clement took charge Cyriel Dessers has been more productive, however, it took for Sam Lammers to change clubs to show what he is really about with one former Rangers star tipping the manager to give him another chance.

Sam Lammers tipped to get second Rangers chance

Lammers has now scored nine goals in his last 10 games, in total, he has 12 goals and five assists for the season.

Rangers haven’t had a striker be that prolific for a long time.

Alfredo Morelos had his purple patches but even he was never able to score goals consistently domestically.

Having been compared to Ruud Van Nistelrooy in his early days, Sam Lammers form for Utrecht has made the decision to play him at number ten for Rangers look more stupid by the day.

This is why Craig Moore, speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, has recommended Clement to take a second look:

“Bring him back and have a look at him in pre-season. Sometimes it doesn’t work out for a player immediately. I don’t think it worked out for Ally McCoist in the earlier period. Super, everyone loves him and he was incredible.

“Of course business is business and it might be something that Rangers snap up. It didn’t work out for him at Rangers, he’s had a great spell at Utrecht.

“But you can also have a look at him at pre-season. I don’t think he played his proper position. Was a 10 at Rangers. He’s been playing as an out-and-out-striker at Utrecht.”

Temptation to cash in on Lammers could force Clement’s hand

With Danilo and Dessers already at the club, it would be a surprise to see Clement go with Lammers in his preferred number nine role when pre-season kicks off.

After signing for £3m, there is a decent scope for profit given what the going rate for players who score goals in the Eredivisie is.

Stranger things have happened though and Clement has seen a few things differently from his predecessor.

He believes the players aren’t as fit and that too many risks were being taken with their fitness, he also started playing Dujon Sterling and Leon Balogun to good effect.

Lammers form might well see Clement consider having another look at him but the temptation to cash in so that he can find a player more suited to his system would be hard to resist.
