Report: The two reasons why Eddie Howe wants Tosin Adarabioyo to sign for Newcastle United

Eddie Howe is on course to get his wish, as Newcastle United close in on a deal for Tosin Adarabioyo.

The week started with speculation that a deal for Lloyd Kelly was heading towards its conclusion, which will delight Eddie Howe. He has worked with Kelly before, and is keen to add him to his Newcastle United squad.

But he is also keen to bring in Tosin Adarabioyo, and it looks like the Magpies are going to do exactly that. It has been reported that Newcastle are closing in on signing the 26-year-old, having made progress on the deal during the past few days. The transfer could be finalised very soon, which is excellent news.

Newcastle United are on the brink of two early summer signings, both of which are free transfers. That is massively important during a transfer window in which PSR rules will be pivotal. The Magpies need to stay on the right side of the line, which is why picking up two talented free agents is brilliant business.

Why Eddie Howe wants to sign Tosin Adarabioyo for Newcastle

However, the finances behind the deal is not the only reason Howe wants Tosin at St James’ Park.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who have listed two reasons why the Newcastle manager has been pushing club officials to sign the Fulham centre-back.

They state that Howe has been attracted to Tosin because of his physicality and his ball-playing ability.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, Adarabioyo is certainly a physical presence. That will appeal to Howe, who has had to rely on Dan Burn as his main figure when it comes to aerial duels.

While Fabian Schar is a great player, he is not physically commanding in the air. That shows what Tosin can bring to this Newcastle team, if he is able to establish himself as a regular starter.

Newcastle will want Tosin to eventually replace Fabian Schar

And that will be the overall goal, with Newcastle eventually needing to replace Schar.

The 32-year-old has been one of the Magpies’ best players this season, but it is unclear how long he will be able to maintain this level of performance. That is why the club need to have someone who can take his place when the time comes and become Sven Botman’s new partner.

And in Tosin, they will hope they are signing just that. His ability on the ball suggests so, as that is a quality that Newcastle would be at risk of losing once Schar moves on. The Switzerland international has an exquisite passing range, and it is a real offensive weapon that the Magpies benefit from time and time again.

Whoever eventually takes Schar’s place will ideally have that attribute too, so it is interesting to note that Howe is fond of Tosin’s passing talent ahead of his seemingly imminent arrival at Newcastle United.
