Castrol Save of the Season nominees - 2023/24

By Jack Gallagher

The 2023/24 Premier League season has finally come to an end, and it's now time to hand out some seasonal awards.

With the Castrol Golden Awards already being given out to David Raya, Erling Haaland and Ollie Watkins respectively, it's now time to pick this year's Castrol Save of the Season winner.

Here's the nominees:

1. Alison Becker (vs Newcastle United)

Alisson Becker has been regarded as one of, if not the, best goalkeeper in the world for the last number of years, and judging by his save against Newcastle United it's pretty easy to see why.

The Brazil star amazingly got two strong hands on a thunderous Miguel Almiron volley to keep the Magpies at bay.

2. Robert Sanchez (vs Aston Villa)

Robert Sanchez was arguably Chelsea's best player in the first few months of the 2023/24 season.

The goalkeeper made a fantastic save in the game against Aston Villa in September, reacting quickly to punch a venomous Nicolo Zaniolo volley over the bar from point-blank range.

3. Alphonse Areola (vs Aston Villa)

Having earned a nomination in August, West Ham United's number one Alphonse Areola has earned the Castrol Save of the Month award in October having made a stunning save at Villa Park.

The French goalkeeper showcased his cat-like reflexes to reach up and acrobatically tip a thunderous long-range effort from Douglas Luiz over the crossbar.

4. Thomas Kaminski (vs Crystal Palace)

Simply put, Luton Town would not have won their first Premier League of the season in November without their goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

The number one was in fantastic form in the win over Crystal Palace, making a stunning double save to prevent Eberechi Eze and then Jeffrey Schlupp from scoring in Luton's eventual 2-1 win

5. Wes Foderingham (vs Liverpool)

Wes Foderingham has made 89 saves so far this season, and his to deny Mohamed Salah in December was probably the pick of the bunch.

The Sheffield United goalkeeper demonstrated razor-sharp instincts to get a hand to a venomous volley from Salah at Bramall Lane.

6. Jordan Pickford (vs Aston Villa)

Pickford was in inspired form in January, earning two nominations for the Save of the Month thanks to his stops to deny Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo and Aston Villa's Leon Bailey.

It is the former of those saves that has earned Pickford the award, with the Everton number one producing a stunning save at Craven Cottage to help his side to another shutout.

7. Mark Flekken (vs Wolves)

Mark Flekken impressed in his maiden Premier League season with Brentford.

The new Brentford number one has earned his nomination thanks to his near post stop to deny a thumping Pedro Neto header back in February.

8. Matz Sels (vs Liverpool)

Veteran goalkeeper Matz Sels showed off his cat-like reflexes in the clash with Liverpool early in March.

Sels dove quickly down to his right to deny a Darwin Nunez header from point blank range, scooping the ball off the line with his right hand before quickly getting back to his knees to gather it in his arms.

9. Andre Onana (vs Burnley)

Andre Onana was one of Man Utd's most consistent performers since the turn of the year, particularly in the Premier League.

The Man Utd number 24 showed off his superb reflexes in a draw with Burnley, shifting his feet and body position quickly in order to get a hand to a point-blank header from Lyle Foster.
