Report: Crystal Palace now handed big boost as key figure rejects move elsewhere

The Premier League season finished less than a week ago and already Crystal Palace are having a busy summer.

The opening days of the 2024 summer have seen Crystal Palace already closing in on making two signings, which will be much to Oliver Glasner‘s delight.

It looks likely that the first signing of the window will be Real Betis centre-back Chadi Riad, as the Eagles close in on a £13m deal.

Along with the defensive addition of Riad, Palace are closing in on a move to sign Daichi Kamada who is out of contract in June with a contract now offered.

But now, it seems as though Palace are set to keep their hands on a key figure at the club this summer as he’s rejected a move elsewhere according to reports.

Dougie Freedman rejects Newcastle United move

Heading into the summer, there has been fear over the prospect of Palace losing Dougie Freedman, with Newcastle and also Man United keen on his services.

But after it looked like Newcastle were going to make a move, it’s now been reported by Football Insider that Freedman has rejected a move to Tyneside.

Freedman is said to have impressed the Tyneside club with his work at Palace, but he’s opted to stay at Selhurst Park.

Keeping Freedman this summer is one of the biggest boosts that Palace could’ve hoped for ahead of what promises to be a busy summer, with his eye for a talented young player being key.

Keeping Freedman could be Crystal Palace’s best signing of the summer

While Palace are likely to sign some impressive players this summer especially given how the budget will be boosted by sales.

The best move Palace could possibly have made is keeping Freedman in charge of transfers this summer.

The Scot has been at the centre of some of the best transfers in the whole league recently, with Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton all being signed for a snippet of what they are now worth.

With Freedman in charge, Palace stand a chance at effectively replacing any of the potential big-money exits which could occur this summer.

An important thing for Palace and also a statement that he’s chosen the Eagles over Newcastle, something which only makes this project more exciting.
