'Similar': Bernardo Silva says one Man City player did something like Vincent Kompany's goal vs Leicester

Bernardo Silva has claimed that a Manchester City player produced a moment like Vincent Kompany when he scored his winner against Leicester City in 2019.

Kompany’s belter of a goal to help City beat Leicester 1-0 has gone done as an iconic moment as far as the Premier League goes.

For a centre-back, who was not renowned for having a strike on him to score a goal of that calibre in the second last game of the season was incredible. Especially considering Liverpool were only one point behind Manchester City.

Bernardo Silva compares one moment to the Vincent Kompany goal vs Leicester

For Vincent Kompany to keep City in the title race in his last home game at the Etihad Stadium was a remarkable sight.

Kompany had a penchant for scoring important goals at City and he had perhaps scored the most crucial one of his career against the Foxes.

Bernardo Silva felt the save from Stefan Ortega against Tottenham to keep Son Heung-min’s potential equaliser at bay in his side’s 2-0 win was similar to the stunner from Vincent Kompany in 2019.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Bernardo picked the save out as the standout moment from the season: “I might have to say [Stefan] Ortega’s save against Son, my heart at that point was, I had the feeling, I just looked at the clock to see, do we still have time to score if this guy actually scores.”

City’s number 20 added: “[Son is] So dangerous [in one-on-one situations]. But it was an unbelievable save from our ‘keeper and you need these special moments from players to win titles and that one was a very important moment for us.”

When asked whether the save from Stefan Ortega was similar to the goal from Vincent Kompany, Bernardo Silva replied: “Yes, similar, I still remember that game very well against Leicester, the game was so difficult. We weren’t creating chances, we were feeling the crowd a bit nervous, we were playing at home.”

“But the crowd was not feeling the energy, we weren’t playing well and people were getting anxious and that goal just saved us in that moment and it was very important, so yes, similar kind of moment.”

Much like Bernardo Silva, Jamie Carragher also compared the two moments produced by Vincent Kompany and Stefan Ortega.

If not for the pair, City could have lost out on their league titles in 2019 and 2024.

But as Bernardo Silva claimed, it takes players to step up and produce moments of magic to help a team win a league title, especially on off days.

No team in the history of the game, whether that is in the past or even in the future will be able to sustain their excellence throughout the season.

Even Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen relied on several last-minute goals to maintain their unbeaten run to the Bundesliga title.

Fortunately for Manchester City, Vincent Kompany and Stefan Ortega were determined to take the onus and help their team win the title.
