'Boring': Former Stockport County star now aims dig at Wrexham with documentary verdict

Former Stockport County player Antoni Sarcevic has aimed a dig at Wrexham after watching the documentary.

Wrexham were embroiled in a title tussle with Stockport County for most of the League Two campaign.

Stockport came out on top of that respective battle, winning the title ahead of Phil Parkinson’s side by four points.

The Reds did have the last laugh, however, as goals from Ollie Palmer and Andy Cannon saw the Welsh side run out as 2-0 victors against their divisional rivals on the final day.

Attacking midfielder Antonio Sarcevic lined up against Wrexham on that day and despite scoring eight and assisting seven in the league, he didn’t manage to contribute a goal or an assist across both league fixtures against the Reds.

Sarcevic has since been released by Stockport following their promotion to League One and Bradford City have snapped up the talented 32-year-old on a free transfer.

Antoni Sarcevic aims dig at Welcome to Wrexham

Sarcevic hasn’t just made the headlines for his transfer to the Bantams, having also aimed a dig at the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

The third series is currently approaching its fifth episode, with many people across the globe tuning into a documentary that delves into their rise up the football pyramid.

Welcome to Wrexham has gained immense popularity since first emerging onto the scene in August 2022 however, some people – including Sarcevic – aren’t huge fans of it.

Speaking on the I Had Trials Once podcast, the former Stockport player explains how the show is “quite boring” and thought it was going to be like the All or Nothing series on Amazon Prime.

He said: “I’ve not seen the latest one, no. I’ve seen the earlier ones but it weren’t really on the football was it.

“It was quite boring. I was thinking it was like the ‘All or Nothing’s’ that are on Amazon prime. I thought it was going to be solely on the football, but it’s just everything around it.”

Welcome to Wrexham is unique

Welcome to Wrexham is a unique series that delves into the lives of those in the community and how much football means to them.

Whereas, other documentaries out there solely focus on football, with an emphasis placed on showcasing what the managers say to the players before the game and at half-time, capturing the raw emotions of the dressing room.

Wrexham’s documentary does have minor parts where Parkinson is raging at the players and clips from their matches, but it mainly focuses on a wider audience, perhaps those who aren’t as interested in the sport.

Whilst the All or Nothing concept is for the hardcore football fan, Welcome to Wrexham is unique because it demonstrates the impact that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have had on a town.

Understandably, Sarcevic isn’t interested in tuning in, but millions are and that is why it’s hugely popular.
