How much Celtic could earn in the Premier Sports Cup next season

Celtic have one more fixture to play this campaign and could finish with Scottish Cup glory under Brendan Rodgers before breaking off for the summer.

Nevertheless, external plans are already in motion for next season as the never-ending cycle of Scottish football continues to evolve over the coming months.

The Bhoys could end the season with a domestic double if they topple Rangers at Hampden on Saturday, though there is a swift turnaround with pre-season on the horizon. Before everyone knows it, Celtic will be commencing the 2024/25 campaign ready to fight on all fronts for silverware.

Intriguingly, there is also major tournament football in the form of EURO 2024 and the Copa America finals at international level; meanwhile, the draw for the Premier Sports Cup group stages takes place on May 29th, illustrating how little time there is from one campaign to the next.

With that in mind, new developments have emerged revealing how much Celtic could stand to earn from the competition, though they won’t be involved until the knockout rounds.

Celtic’s potential earnings in the Premier Sports Cup

Celtic fans will expect their team to go all the way in the Premier Sports Cup after bowing out of the Viaplay Cup in the Second Round against Kilmarnock this year.

Per the SPFL official website, over £3.5 million of prize money and TV revenue will be distributed between participating teams, with each club guaranteed to inherit a minimum of £30,000 from competing, representing an increase of 25%.

The cup winners will pick up £400,000; meanwhile, the runners-up inherit £200,000. Semi-finalists are in line for £150,000 apiece, quarter-finalists benefit to the tune of £100,000 and Second Round losers claim £60,000.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster explained the permutations, stating: “We’re delighted to announce record prize money for our flagship cup competition next season.

“Premier Sports have been fantastic supporters of the League Cup and of our national game. That investment has enabled us to further increase the funds we can make available to clubs competing in our premier cup competition.

“We’re all looking forward to the return of the Premier Sports Cup, with the draw for the firstround group stage taking place at 1.00pm on Wednesday 29 May, live on Premier Sports. Seeding pots for the draw will be confirmed early next week.”

In truth, Celtic’s takings from the competition will be a drop in the ocean compared to their wider earnings; however, it is interesting to see how the formalities of cup competitions play out.

Either way, the Hoops stand to make a small financial gain that could come with the prestige of further silverware under Rodgers.
