Exclusive: Bayern Munich close on deal for former Premier League winning player as new manager

Bayern Munich’s search for their new head coach is finally coming to a conclusion, HITC understands.

The saga at the Allianz Arena has been ongoing since Thomas Tuchel’s departure was first confirmed by Bayern in February.

Since then Xabi Alonso has rejected them, along with Liverpool, to stay with Bayer Leverkusen, which was followed by former boss Julian Nagelsmann electing to sign a new deal with Germany and guide them into the European Championships this summer.

Despite coming close to a deal, Ralf Rangnick then decided to stay with Austria – before Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner said he had no interest in leaving Selhurst Park after only just arriving. Benfica’s Roger Schmidt also rejected an approach – whilst there was also Tuchel, who in the middle of all these approaches failed to agree terms on a new deal that would have seen him stay.

HITC revealed earlier this month that Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Burnley’s Vincent Kompany had emerged as options for the Bavarian giants.

Bayern Munich want Vincent Kompany to be their new boss

We can now confirm that Vincent Kompany is Bayern Munich’s preferred option to take charge of the club.

Now HITC can confirm that talks have progressed with Kompany and the club’s sporting director Max Eberl is now pushing for the highly-rated Belgian to come in.

Kompany is also on Chelsea’s radar, but Bayern are now pushing hard to make the 38-year-old their new head coach.

The news may come as a shock to the club’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, who joked last week that they did not need Kompany as they were well stocked in central defence.

“Vincent Kompany? You journalists pull a new name out of your nose every other day. No thank you, we are very happy with De Ligt and Dier,” he joked.
