Man who fatally slashed his ex-wife gets decades-long prison sentence

A man was sentenced last week to 40 years in state prison after he was convicted of killing his ex-wife in Camden County in 2020, authorities announced Wednesday.

Philip Puche, 76, of Cherry Hill, was convicted on April 3 of murder, first-degree robbery, second-degree burglary and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose before his sentencing on May 15, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said in a release.

Puche attacked 63-year-old Nancy Kenney on July 19, 2020, just as she was entering her car outside of her home on Road C in Audubon Park, the office said.

Haddon Township Police and detectives from the county prosecutor’s office found Kenney, who had wounds to the head and neck area, authorities said. Detectives discovered that Puche slashed her multiple times with a sharp object during the attack.

On the night of slashing, she underwent emergency surgery at Cooper University Hospital, officials said. The next day, Puche was identified as a suspect and was charged with attempted murder.

Kenney died from her injuries about eight months later, on March 15, 2021, and as a result, Puche’s attempted murder charge was upgraded to murder.

Authorities have not said which items he took from the home that resulted in the robbery charge.

Puche must serve 85% of the sentence handed down to him last week before he is eligible for parole, the office said.
