Arsenal can sign perfect Declan Rice partner for just £17m after new transfer update

Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder, but may not need to break the bank to secure an upgrade in a key position.

Declan Rice is now thriving as a more advanced midfielder, and whilst this has been reflected in his performances, a new partner would not go amiss.

Jorginho and Thomas Partey have performed well at times this season, but Partey is showing signs that his legs are not what they used to be, and with one year left on his deal, he should arguably be moved on.

Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimaraes have been linked with a move to the Emirates, but a much cheaper option has now emerged in Youssouf Fofana, who may be available for a bargain price.

Youssouf Fofana could cost Arsenal as little as £17m

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed in his Daily Briefing that Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana could now be available for around £17m.

“Monaco have hinted that Youssouf Fofana could be a name to leave the club this summer, but it’s still early to know for sure where he could go and for what kind of price,” he stated.

“My understanding is that Monaco will communicate the asking price for Fofana in one or two weeks – I think he could be available around €20m (£17m) but that’s just my opinion.

“There has been interest in Fofana before – last summer, he was on Manchester United and Inter list but it’s quiet with Inter now. Let’s see what the new Man United board will decide to do, while there could also be other clubs ready to join the race.”

It remains to be seen what kind of deal can be struck for Fofana, but he could be the ideal Partey replacement to partner Rice in midfield.

Fofana ranks in the top 5% of European midfielders for progressive passes, slightly ahead of Partey, whilst also ranking much higher for interceptions.

The Frenchman could provide the deep passing ability Arsenal need at the base of midfield, and combined with an elite physical presence, he could finally replace Partey as a like-for-like option.

At a potential cost of £17m, Fofana would represent a low-risk deal, and if it does not work out, there is no financial burden unlike with other huge deals which proved disastrous.
