Wrexham striker Paul Mullin now drops 12-word verdict after scooping latest EFL award

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has shared his reaction after winning his latest EFL award.

The superlatives run out when describing Paul Mullin’s time at Wrexham since arriving in the summer of 2021 from Cambridge United.

At the time, many questioned his ambition after dropping from League One to the National League, but the Liverpool-born forward was sold by the project Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds were building.

Fast forward three years and Mullin is back to where he previously was, a League One striker, after firing 24 goals and supplying eight assists in 38 League Two appearances.

Despite missing the first eight matches with a punctured lung, the 29-year-old dragged his side to promotion with his clinical finishing, scoring a whopping 14 in his last 12 games.

Mullin was perhaps unfortunate to miss out on the division’s Team of the Season when teammates Elliot Lee and Arthur Okonkwo were included however, he has just received recognition from the fans.

Paul Mullin reacts after winning the PFA Fans Player of the Year Award

Mullin has just capped off an unbelievable campaign in the fourth tier where he surpassed 100 goals for Wrexham by being voted the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year.

The Wrexham goal machine beat the likes of fellow nominees Macauley Langstaff, Davies Keillor Dunn and Isaac Olaofe to the award, which is a testament to the incredible numbers he produced.

He has since reacted to winning the award via Instagram, claiming it’s another thing he’ll show his son in the future, saying: “Thanks to everyone who voted!! Another something to show Albi when he’s older.”

Paul Mullin needs a new strike partner in League One

Mullin’s telepathic partnership with Ollie Palmer was a huge reason he scored a lot of his goals, but as they make the third-tier step up, he needs a new strike partner.

Palmer is brilliant in the lower divisions, although there are question marks over his ability in League One.

Wrexham currently have seven strikers at their disposal however, only Mullin, Palmer, Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott will be in Phil Parkinson’s thinking.

The 56-year-old perhaps needs a long-term replacement for the two veteran forwards, typically a tall and physical striker, but one with a huge future ahead.

Mullin will probably still score goals regardless of whether Parkinson signs a new striker, with Lee Trundle previously saying he’s good enough to play in the Championship.

And he will be desperate to beat his recent goal record at a higher level, surpassing the 26-goal mark last term, though that would take some doing.
