Football: Mitoma's Brighton to make preseason trip to Japan

English Premier League side Brighton said Thursday they will play two friendly matches at Tokyo's National Stadium in late July against J-League clubs.

Japan winger Kaoru Mitoma's Brighton are scheduled to play Kashima Antlers on July 24 and Tokyo Verdy four days later. Brighton finished the season in 11th place over the weekend.

"I'll try to be ready to play well," said Mitoma, who has been out of action since February with a lower back injury. "I'm recovering well."

"We will be in the final part of our preseason preparations, ahead of the new Premier League season," Brighton deputy chairman and chief executive Paul Barber said.

"It has been amazing to see how interest in our club has grown in Japan and we now have a huge fan base there, and we are very excited in anticipation of our first-ever visit there."
