Basketball: Japan's Baba made available for overseas offers

The Nagasaki Velca of Japan's top basketball league said Thursday they have placed Yudai Baba on the list of players available for contract negotiations as he wishes to play in the NBA.

The 28-year-old shooting guard and small forward has had stints in the G League, the official minor league unit of the National Basketball Association, and the NBL, which consists of teams in Australia and New Zealand.

"We'd like to support his challenge to play in the NBA as much as possible," said the B-League first-division team.

Last summer, Baba contributed to Japan's national team as it qualified for the Paris Olympics with three wins at the World Cup, co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
