'That is the secret': Adam Lallana explains what Arne Slot 'has to' do when he joins Liverpool

Liverpool fans are looking ahead to a new era as Arne Slot prepares to join the club.

After Jurgen Klopp completed his long goodbye on Sunday, Slot is set to officially take over on June 1st.

It’s going to be strange for fans who have become so used to having Klopp as their manager. But there’s plenty of reasons to be excited about what Slot can bring.

Obviously, he’s got a big act to follow. Klopp’s time at Anfield was one of the most successful periods in Liverpool’s history. Expectations are high.

Having played his part in that trophy-laden time, former Reds midfielder Adam Lallana knows what it takes to be a hit at Liverpool. And the 36-year-old has some advice for Slot to follow.

Adam Lallana offers Arne Slot advice

Lallana is well placed to give tips on how to survive and thrive at Anfield. Although he wasn’t necessarily a huge player for Liverpool, he spent six good years at club.

On top of that, he overcame some initial difficulties after joining from Southampton. As he recently revealed when talking about Klopp’s impact on him, Lallana dealt with a certain amount of imposter syndrome before the German took it away.

After bouncing back from that, the Brighton player went on to win the Premier League and Champions League with the Reds.

Had he been himself from the start, maybe Lallana’s time at Liverpool would have been even more memorable. And speaking to the official Brighton YouTube channel, the England international urged Slot not to try and emulate anyone else when he comes in.

“Whoever’s replacing Jurgen has obviously got to come in and he’s been successful but he has to be himself and trust and back himself in the way that he sees football,” Lallana advises.

“It isn’t going to be easy because Jurgen was Jurgen for nine years and people will morn Jurgen. It will be time, another process in place but Jurgen is a genius because he’s Jurgen. That is the secret.”

What Liverpool can expect from Arne Slot

Thankfully, it sounds like Slot will not struggle with the mental weight of filling Klopp’s shoes.

The 45-year-old is reportedly ‘off the scale’ in terms of his communication skills. That bodes extremely well in terms of replacing Klopp.

One of the former boss’ real qualities was in striking the right tone for any situation. If you can do that in an authentic way, then you’re onto a winner.

It also sounds as if Slot very much has his own way of playing football. Handed the ‘head coach’ title, the Dutchman’s focus will be on getting the Liverpool squad to see his vision for them.

Obviously, you never quite know how things will work out until they’re in motion. But all the signs point to Slot being able to put Lallana’s words into action.
