'Very, very strange': Jason Cundy shocked after hearing manager who could get the Chelsea job

Jason Cundy has claimed it would be ‘very very strange’ if Chelsea appointed one manager as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement.

The Argentine turned things around as much as he could at Stamford Bridge since the turn of the year. His side finished sixth in the end, which is not bad at all considering where they were in the first half of the season.

However, Chelsea decided it was time for a new man at the helm, and the two parties parted ways on Tuesday as a result.

The Blues have been linked with plenty of managers since. Cundy has had his say on one of them.

Jason Cundy shares what he has heard about Kieran McKenna to Chelsea

All eyes are on Todd Boehly and co now to see who they will bring in as Chelsea’s next manager.

The owners have come under a ton of criticism for some of their decisions since they took over the club. It has to be said that they’ve made some terrible calls.

Now, after a billion spent and four managers changed, the focus is on Boehly and co to see whether they can find the right man for the job.

Chelsea have been linked with a bunch of names since Pochettino was released. Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna is one of them.

The 38-year-old led The Tractor Boys to the Premier League after what was a tremendous season in the Championship.

McKenna’s work at Portman Road has not gone unnoticed – he has been linked with some big clubs over recent weeks.

His former employers Manchester United are said to be interested, while Chelsea are reportedly keen to appoint him as their new boss too.

Jason Cundy reveals that he has heard McKenna is high up on Chelsea’s list. However, he then claimed that it would be ‘very, very strange’ to see him get the job.

“I’ll tell you who’s a popular boy at the minute – Kieran McKenna. My gosh! I’m hearing he’s high on the list at Chelsea, high on the list at Man United, high on the list at Brighton,” he said on talkSPORT.

“It seems ridiculous to think this time last year, he had only just managed in League One. This time last year, he got Ipswich playing from League One. Now, he’s being linked with the biggest club in the world Man United and Chelsea.”

When Jamie O’Hara asked Cundy if he would take McKenna at Chelsea, he replied: “I’d find it a very, very strange appointment.

“I can’t sit here and say I’d be delighted – he’s an unknown quantity. He’s never managed a game in the Premier League.”

McKenna makes Ipswich contract decision after Chelsea links

Ipswich Town are desperate to keep hold of Kieran McKenna.

The Tractor Boys were 12th in League One when the now-38-year-old was appointed as their manager in December 2021. He has since achieved two promotions and led them back to the Premier League.

Ipswich are planning to hand McKenna a lucrative new contract now to fend off interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and other clubs.

However, the talented Northern Irish manager is set to reject those offers and is ready to accept a bigger challenge this summer.

Whether that challenge will be at Stamford Bridge remains to be seen.
