Journalist says £55m striker may be more likely to sign for Arsenal than Gyokeres after speaking to sources

Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of new strikers this summer.

The Gunners are in the market for a new centre-forward, and pretty much every big-name forward in Europe has been linked at this point.

Viktor Gyokeres is a player who has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months, but according to Charles Watts, speaking on his YouTube channel, a move for the Swedish striker isn’t likely.

Indeed, Watts says that after speaking to sources in recent days, he doesn’t believe a huge £100m-level move is on the cards this summer, claiming that a player like Benjamin Sesko, valued at £55m, is more likely to sign.

Watts shared what he’s heard about these two strikers.

“There are other forwards linked too such as Gyokeres. He would be far more expensive than Benjamin Sesko. From some of the discussions I’ve had in the last couple of days I’m not sure Gyokeres will happen or could happen,” Watts said.

“I’m not sure we’ll see a huge transfer this summer in terms of financial outlay, I think we will see some good transfers for Arsenal, but I’m not sure we’ll see someone along the lines of another Declan Rice pushing the £100m mark which Gyokeres will.

“You never know in football, but I think Arsenal’s focus will be spreading the cost around, that’s why I think Sesko may be ahead of Gyokeres in the pecking order.”

Sesko a better option

While it is a tad disheartening to hear that Arsenal may go for the cheaper option, there’s reason to believe that Sesko would be the better option.

Sesko is younger, and while his goalscoring record isn’t as impressive, he has been playing in a better league – the Bundesliga compared to the Portuguese League.

With all due respect to Portuguese football, the standards aren’t that high, meanwhile Germany’s fifth-best team is set to play in a Champions League final next week.

Sesko is more proven at a higher level, and, for that reason, there’s an argument to make that he’s actually a better option than Gyokeres.
