Joe Gomez shares what players who have left Liverpool have told him they really miss about the club

Liverpool have waved goodbye to some incredible players over recent years.

Jurgen Klopp’s exit on Sunday was a reminder of just what a good group of players the manager has overseen during his nine-year spell.

Some have turned themselves into true legends of the club having won every piece of silverware possible at Anfield.

But it hasn’t just been the manager and his squad which has made Klopp’s time at Liverpool so special. It has also been the bond the German – and his players – formed with the fans.

Anfield has been an absolute fortress throughout Klopp’s reign. The quality of football on show has fed the fans, who have in turn spurred the players on to even greater things. And according to Joe Gomez, that support has been seriously appreciated.

Joe Gomez shares what former players miss about Liverpool

Gomez is Liverpool’s longest serving player. Having arrived in the summer of 2015, the 27-year-old even pre-dates Klopp himself.

As a result, Gomez has had plenty of time to familiarise himself with the Liverpool crowd. He’s also had lots of chances to see the farewell’s given to those who have given their all for the club.

And speaking to The Anfield Wrap, Gomez has praised the support on offer at Liverpool, while also claiming that those who have departed have often told him that no other club quite compares.

“It just means a lot to be a part of this culture, this club and what it means,” says the defender. “I think people from the outside looking in are probably envious of what we have here.

“Being here this many years it’s only grown over time making me realise how special it is here.

“Speaking to some of the boys that have moved on and them emphasising how good of a place this. I guess sometimes having something to compare it to helps, but I’m just grateful to be here and long may it continue.”

Liverpool fans still the best around

It really has been a special period for Liverpool. The whole feeling of the club, the symbiosis between fans, players and coaching staff have been exceptional.

It’s no surprise to hear that those who may have gone off to new ventures have struggled to replicate that feeling elsewhere.

With Klopp now on his way too though, it will be interesting to see whether Liverpool can keep this up.

During his farewell speech on Sunday, Klopp gave a call to arms for Reds supporters to ensure this feeling does not end with him.

Although it was a noble call from Jurgen, Liverpool fans have been roaring their team on with the same gusto for years. It may be different under Arne Slot, but the passion of the support will never change. It will always be the best. Just ask those who have left.
