£127m Man City duo named in best U21 Premier League team of the season

Two Manchester City stars have been included in a Premier League team of the season made up of players at the age of 21 or under.

The latest Premier League campaign ended last weekend with City winning their sixth title in seven years after beating West Ham United 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

With the Blues now preparing for this weekend’s FA Cup final against Manchester United, two of City’s young stars have been recognised for their impressive efforts throughout the recent Premier League campaign.

According to WhoScored, Jeremy Doku (7.24/10) and Josko Gvardiol (7.04/10) have been included in their U21 Premier League team of the season based on their performances throughout the campaign.

Both players only joined the Manchester club during the previous summer transfer window.

Doku joined from Rennes in a deal worth £55m, whereas Gvardiol made a £77m move from RB Leipzig.

Doku and Gvardiol have had impressive debut seasons at Man City

In 29 league appearances this season, the winger scored three goals and delivered nine assists in total.

He also ended the campaign with more carries into the penalty area than any other player in the division.

Then with Gvardiol, the defender appeared in 28 league games for City and chipped in with four goals and two assists.

In terms of his defensive work, the Croatian racked up a higher combined total of tackles and interceptions (82) than any other defender in the City squad.

Taking all of that into account, it’s easy to see why these two players have found themselves in this U21 Premier League team of the season alongside other young stars such as Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer among others.

It also shows how smart the Manchester club were in terms of bringing them to the Etihad Stadium in the first place despite their age.
