3 tips for first-time Brazilian wax prep

Alexandra is a Brazilian wax expert, who goes by the handle, The Wax Queen, on TikTok. She owns a waxing center of the same name in Rhode Island.

She has been in the business since 2008 and uses her content to educate social media users about the dos and don’ts of waxing. In one of her videos, she shares three tips you ought to know before booking your first-ever session.

Watch the length

Going into your first Brazilian wax with overgrown hair is a pain for you and the expert. Alexandra says you should never get your private area waxed with full-grown hair – unattended for more than three months – as it causes a lot of pain and doesn’t allow the wax to work to its full potential.

She suggests shaving or buzzing down completely and going with the Brazilian wax two weeks later when the hair’s slightly grown. Continue the procedure once in four or five weeks without shaving in between.

Get rid of the dead skin

Always exfoliate the night before getting the Brazilian wax as it helps get rid of the dead skin build-up.

The dead skin when not exfoliated sticks to the wax, causing more pain. She recommends using a dry brush in an upward motion across the area.

Avoid coffee

Yes, you read right. Caffeine intake supposedly makes your skin super sensitive. According to the New York Allergy and Sinus Center, Caffeine Allergy can cause rashes, hives, itching, or eczema-like reactions. So, the wax specialist advises against drinking coffee before the hair removal.

Of course, you can enjoy your favorite beverage once you’re hair-free. Alexandra also recommends taking antihistamines to prevent any allergies and lessen the reaction.
