‘Let’s not forget’: Former Arsenal star tears into Jamie Carragher after Liverpool claim

Liverpool will undergo a new era from this summer onwards, with long-serving manager Jurgen Klopp having just left the club.

The German exits Anfield as a legend, with his replacement Arne Slot certainly having big shoes to fill in the dugout.

Debates have unsurprisingly arisen in the days following Klopp’s departure regarding his status among the Premier League greats.

The likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola have emerged, with all three enjoying hugely successful careers in England.

Jamie Carragher has now stirred the debate, saying on the Stick to Football podcast that he would rank Klopp ahead of Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger.

Jack Wilshere fumes at Jamie Carragher after Jurgen Klopp statement

The view has not gone down well with former Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere, who believes Wenger is “second to none” in the English top-flight.

“Klopp unbelievable how he transformed Liverpool but Arsene’s legacy in the Premier League is second to none,” Wilshere wrote on X.

“Sorry Jamie but you are miles off it, please don’t be so biased and respect Arsene and what he did over a longer period, including leading the only team in the Premier League to be invincible.

“Everyone appreciates what Pep has done and changed the way we see football in this country but don’t forget AW had a similar effect when he came in 96!

“You know that era better than me and witnessed it so let’s not forget that!”

Where does the former Liverpool boss rank among the greats?

It is a difficult debate to have, with various factors playing a part in the overall discussion, although it would be hard even for Liverpool fans to argue against Manchester United legend Ferguson as number one.

Guardiola meanwhile has transformed the situation on the other side of Manchester, recently guiding Manchester City to a historic fourth successive Premier League title.

The Spaniard now has six English league titles to his name, second only to Ferguson’s 13, with Wenger and Mourinho joint-third on three, while Klopp has one.

Champions League trophies and other honours do, of course, come into the debate, which will seemingly go on for some time.

In terms of Europe’s premier club competition, Wenger failed in that area during his time at Arsenal, while Mourinho won his two titles with Porto and Inter Milan.

Ferguson tasted success twice with the Red Devils, while both Klopp and Guardiola each have one title to their name with Liverpool and Manchester City respectively, with the Spaniard also winning it twice with Barcelona.
