The Packers will get to work out against another team during the heat of training camp. Two days before Green Bay’s preseason game against the Ravens, they’ll join Baltimore for a joint practice.
Ravens coach John Harbaughmade the announcement, Wednesday, as team goes through OTAs. Baltimore plays host to the Packers, Aug. 24, for an exhibition game. And on Aug. 22, Green Bay and Baltimore will conduct joint practices.
The Ravens reached the AFC title game at the end of 2023. Meanwhile, the Packers made it to the second, or divisional, round of the NFC playoffs before falling to the 49ers on the road. So the practices will be between two of the most watched teams, at least in the preseason.
Baltimore already features dynamic quarterback Lamar Jackson, last year’s NFL MVP. Jackson told reporters this week that he’s dropped a chunk of weight to get in better playing shape.
“I don’t really know how many pounds I lost,” Jackson told reporters. “I’m like two-something (hundred pounds) right now. But I [will] just say it was important enough to be able to move around a little bit extra, that’s all.”
He said he wanted to be “more agile and be able to move more.”
Harbaugh said his quarterback was in “great” shape.
“I think that’s Lamar, he’s a pro,” Harbaugh said. “He knows what he’s doing. He knows where he wants to be with that. My concern is that he is in shape, best shape of his life and he’s working toward.”
Meanwhile, in Green Bay, quarterback Jordan Love is prepping for his second season as a starter. Last year’s success meshed with the loss to San Francisco is all motivation for the Packers.
“That 49ers game, being that close, a game we had right there and kind of let slip away from us, it’s tough,” Love told reporters. “It definitely fueled us. Everybody was hungry in the locker room after and ready to get back to work and ready to get back here. Everybody being here, you can see how hungry guys are to get back to work and get ready for this season.”
“These guys, they want to put in the work,” LaFleur said. “We’ve got a lot of guys that love the game and love the process of grinding together and going through some tough things together. But to have him here, you can’t put a value on that.”
