Report: Manchester United now desperate to sign 'great' £20m wonderkid to replace Raphael Varane

Defensive reinforcements are a necessity for Manchester United and it’s now it’s reported the club will do anything to sign one target.

As we approach the transfer window, the one position which absolutely must be strengthened by Manchester United is the defence after a Premier League campaign which saw 58 goals conceded.

With the defence constantly in trouble and an unprecedented amount of shots being faced by Andre Onana, central defenders are desired by all who have watched United play.

With Jonny Evans still not having signed a new contract and Raphael Varane confirmed to be leaving, along with uncertainty over the likes of Victor Lindelof, there definitely needs to be additions.

But now, reports have suggested United are closing in on one target for whom, the club would do anything to sign.

Manchester United would do anything to sign Aaron Anselmino

Boca Juniors’ “great jewel” these days is defender Aaron Anselmino, the 19-year-old centre-back who has regularly been credited with interest from United over the past few months.

Now, a report from Planet Boca has suggested that in order to sign him this summer, United would do anything with a mega offer potentially being prepared.

United have been scouting Anselmino for months and they’re not alone, as Chelsea are also interested in the Argentine teenager this summer.

But the report continues to explain that United have been following him since January and an offer in June wouldn’t be surprising, with both interested clubs willing to pay up to $25m (£19.6m), with his release clause now gone after a new contract.

With such substantial interest, this is a deal which United could get done fairly quickly as a potential replacement for the outgoing Varane.

Can Aaron Anselmino start next season?

Anselmino is without a doubt one of the best young centre-backs in the world right now and he’s destined for the pinnacle of the sport.

However, having only made a handful of senior appearances for Boca, it’s not likely he’d be arriving to partner Lisandro Martinez as Harry Maguire probably stands ahead of him.

But he’s the kind of player United could bring in and gradually increase his game time until he’s ready as he’d be an excellent backup option and could learn loads from his potential senior United teammates.

Alternatively, Anselmino is also a player who’d likely attract interest from fairly big clubs on loan, with Ineos potentially utilising the link with Nice to send him there which could be a smart move.
