£35m winger says he used to idolise Dirk Kuyt after being linked with Liverpool move

Liverpool are certain to be busy this summer as they prepare for life under Arne Slot, with the manager coming in for Jurgen Klopp.

The latter brought many top players to the Merseyside outfit during his hugely successful reign at Anfield.

And the former now has a tricky test ahead of him in trying to replicate that success, with a few new faces definitely needed if he is to get off to a fast start.

Centre-back is reportedly an area Liverpool are looking to prioritise, with a replacement needed for the departing Joel Matip.

But there is work to be done in the forward areas, too. As recently reported by David Ornstein, a wide attacker is set to be on the agenda. And with that in mind, one potential target may have just given Liverpool a secret-weapon in the race to sign him.

Crysencio Summerville explains Dirk Kuyt influence

As reported by TEAMtalk, Reds scouts like what they have seen from Leeds United forward Crysencio Summerville, with the player said to have been added to their list of targets in the transfer window.

And Summerville has perhaps added fuel to the fire with his latest comments regarding former Liverpool man Dirk Kuyt, a player he idolised and also played under at former club Feyenoord.

“Growing up I watched Neymar and Lionel Messi a lot, but in Rotterdam I looked up to Eljero Elia, a left winger from Feyenoord, and a Dutch legend in Dirk Kuyt,” Summerville told TEAMtalk.

“He was also my coach in the Under-19s, so I learned a lot from him. He taught me more about things off the pitch because I was struggling a bit in terms of maturity.

“The small details, for example, like not being late to training and instead being the first one on the pitch. These are the small details which can make the difference, so I’m very thankful for that.”

Will Liverpool make a move for Crysencio Summerville?

Both Slot and Summerville have strong ties with Feyenoord, with the former now leaving the Dutch club for Merseyside.

The latter meanwhile spent several years among their youth ranks before his switch to Elland Road in 2020.

The winger also has history at Anfield, with many Reds fans still perhaps annoyed with the 22-year-old following his 89th-minute winner for Leeds back in October 2022.

The goal secured a 2-1 win for the visitors, as well as bringing an end to Liverpool’s 29-game unbeaten run on home soil in the Premier League.

But a new winger could be a priority for Slot, particularly if Mohamed Salah departs this summer, with the Reds set to demand over £100million from Saudi Pro League clubs for his services.

With Leeds in the Championship play-offs, Summerville can extend his goal and assist tallies, with Southampton awaiting in the final.

The winger is certainly respected at Elland Road, with his Leeds teammate Patrick Bamford noting that he is different class in training. Perhaps it’s time for Dirk to get on the phone.
